    Innerkip Highlands Club Championships

2022 Club Championships

Once again, a huge thank you to each of the participants who challenged themselves to play in the annual Club Championships at Innerkip Highlands on August 27th & 28th. A full field of 100 players took to the golf course to seek the glory of lifting one of the five Club Championship trophies.

A huge congratulations to the winners of each of the five flights after 36 holes of play!

Men's Club Champion: Atif Shamsher (75 - 73: +4) - 2020 & 2022 Club Champion!
As the gallery watched anxiously from the patio, Atif carefully read his putt for birdie on the 36th hole on Sunday. Charlie Burke (in the clubhouse), Victor Robichaud (holed for par) and Atif were all tied at +5 with the possibility of a three-way, sudden-death playoff looming. With a confident stroke and a Tiger-worthy fist pump, Atif rolled his putt home and secured the 2022 Men's Club Championship! The Innerkip trophy is, once again, held by an Innerkip resident!

Women's Club Champion: Lisa Narayansingh (72 - 69: -3 Net)
Showcasing the calm demeanour often found on the fairways of the LPGA tour, Lisa played back-to-back rounds at or below her handicap to solidify her place as the 2022 Women's Club Champion. Punctuating her weekend with three birdies including one on the Island Green on #5 on Saturday, Lisa secured her victory with tenacity and grit!

"B" Flight Champion: Dan Capling (80 - 76: +12)
With birdies on holes 2, 7 and 16, Dan's final round 76 secured his place as the "B" flight champion bringing a second Innerkip trophy to a hometown hero. He was quoted on the patio saying "The beer sipped from the silver bowl of this trophy was the best-tasting beer I've ever had!"

"C" Flight Champion: Peter Chubb (77 - 86: +19 - 3rd playoff hole)
For the third year in a row, the championships could not be decided without a playoff! With a 5-shot improvement over his Saturday round, Brett Ferguson (84 - 79: +19) forced a playoff from the second to last group with Peter Chubb. After a dramatic battle that included a chip-in for Brett on the first playoff hole (#1) to stay alive and a pair of pressure putts on the second playoff hole (#18) to keep the competition going for a third hole, Peter solidified his victory with a bogey on the third playoff hole (#1).

"D" Flight Champion: Austin Hayward (74 - 84: +14)
Austin Hayward shot a personal best round 74 during the first round to give himself a 4-shot lead on the way into the second round on Sunday. Austin maintained his composure and managed to fend off challengers to secure his first Club Championship win!

There is still tons of great golf left to be played this season. You could even consider it practice for next years Club Championships!

2021 Club Championships

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2021 Club Championships. We had the largest field ever with 90 players taking to the course to compete this weekend. After nearly 25 years without a playoff for the "A" Flight title, we headed into our second in two years this afternoon. Chad Swartzentruber shot a lights-out round of -8 (64) to finish -4 for the weekend to tie Mike Saunders who shot -5 (67). These two headed back to the first tee for the first playoff hole. Both players hit deep drives but Saunders hit his second shot tight to 4'. Swartzentruber pulled his second left leaving a tough pin-high chip. Swartzentruber made his up & down for par while Saunders missed the birdie putt. We headed to 18 for the second playoff hole. A missed chip would cost Saunders a crucial shot and Swartzentruber would go on to make a textbook par to take the championship. NOTE: Swartzentruber's 64 will set a new course record, impressive in its own right but even more so in the final round of the club championships!

Katie Komsa played two excellent rounds to be crowned the 2021 Women's Club Champion with rounds of 78 and 80 on Saturday and Sunday. Our congratulations to her for her wonderful play this weekend!

Thank you to our Golf Shop staff (Kristy, Sarah and their team) for keeping us organized and on time through this incredible event. Thank you to our F&B team (David, Thomas and their team) for keeping us hydrated in the heat and helping us celebrate appropriately during and post-round. Last, but not least, a huge thank you to our incredible grounds crew (Randy, Dave and their team) for keeping the golf course in such impeccable shape. Both practice and tournament rounds found the conditions to be exceptional!

2020 Club Championships - Results

Thank you for participating in the 2020 Club Championships at Innerkip Highlands. The golf season has seen changes and challenges that we could never have foreseen but the spirit of competition and the perseverance of golfers continues to impress us. We’re proud to be able to continue the long tradition of competitive golf to crown the champions who play at Innerkip regularly.

After an incredible weekend of golf, we have crowned the 2020 Club Champions at Innerkip Highlands. The tense finish was topped off by a playoff between defending champion Charlie Burke and Innerkip local Atif Shamsher. Atif shot a -2 round of 70 on Sunday to finish +3 for the tournament while Charlie battled his way through a tough front nine to maintain his final score of +3 after 36 holes of play. For the first time in over 20 years, we were headed to the first tee for a sudden-death playoff on #1 and #18 until a winner was decided. Atif made a textbook par while Charlie made a valiant effort with a tough greenside pitch but could not make the up and down for par.

The gallery cheered as Atif tapped in his short putt and Atif Shamsher was declared the 2020 Men's Club Champion at Innerkip Highlands.

Carly Peister achieved her third title as the Women's Club Champion (2016, 2017 & 2020) with rounds of 80 and 81 on Saturday and Sunday.

A huge thank you goes out to our amazing Maintenance Crew who had the course in incredible shape for the entire weekend (despite the frost delay Saturday), our Golf Shop team both inside and out, keeping everyone organized and getting the scores in when we needed them and to our food and beverage staff for keeping the field fed and watered (or beered) through their rounds. Thank you to everyone who competed, whether it was your first competitive round or your 20th, this event literally wouldn't happen without you challenging yourself and the field. Finally, thank you to Baden Coffee Company for their continued support of our event and of golf in general!
